Our story

At just 13 years old, Twizer Thomson faced an unimaginable tragedy—the loss of both parents. It was a devastating burden to bear at such a young age. Yet, rather than allowing it to break him, he found solace in his love for reading and art, using these passions to reshape his perspective on reality. What he didn’t realize at the time was that this creative drive would eventually lead to the birth of a brand.

Crooks and Candy was founded by our creative director, inspired by the classic John Steinbeck novel Of Mice and Men. The characters ‘Crooks’ and ‘Candy’ directly influenced the brand’s inception. First and foremost an artist, Twiz fell in love with fashion and, being entirely self-taught, began bringing his imaginative designs to life. Through years of meticulous craftsmanship, trial and error with different fabrics, and unwavering dedication, he eventually honed the aesthetic vision for the brand.

Around this time, Micky ‘2 Gunnz’ Younis took notice of Twiz’s remarkable work. Coming from an environment where few get the chance to achieve their childhood dreams, Mike grew up amidst the harsh realities of poverty and violence often associated with “the hood.” Despite these challenges, he held onto the kind of ambitious dreams that drive men to greatness. Some of his story—along with that of his two younger brothers—can be heard on The James English Podcast.

Together, Twiz and Mike devised a plan to introduce the brand to a wider audience. For an entire year, they meticulously planned, designed, tested, redesigned, and retested, overcoming challenge after challenge in preparation for the brand’s launch. The result? A bold and distinct aesthetic defined by striking designs, attention to detail, and premium-quality fabrics.

Crooks and Candy represents the aspiration for more—the pursuit of luxury by those who stand apart from society. Much like the dream of the luxury farm that Crooks and Candy heard about from Lennie and George, this brand embodies the desire to rise beyond circumstances and claim something greater.
